Kalamazoo DOES Have Talent

I am having a little Déjà vu here. I’m pretty sure I posted this topic before, but—for whatever reason—it up and disappeared. So maybe I just didn’t shout it out loud enough: we won the very first Kalamazoo Has Talent competition and took the title of “Most Talented Performers” in Kalamazoo. It was a humble honor, one we accepted only with humility because there were so many talented acts.

Over 80 performers, solo acts, bands, and other talented people competed in the event, and it was quite the experience to share the stage last Saturday with the top twelve. We performed two brand new poems during the evening and took a risk to challenge the audience and make them think and feel…even on a Saturday night…in a dance club…at a bar. Let’s just say the audience, even those who didn’t come out to support us, certainly responded with lots of love.

One new fan had made a comment to us saying that he thought our biggest competition at Kalamazoo Has Talent was the bar. Yeah, they were chatty. It seems that some audience members were only there to cheer on the “group” they came out to support. But let’s just say that Gabriel helped provide a few “encouraging” words to help keep the bar patrons in line.  Way to go Gabriel!

Special recognition goes to Micaela Kingslight whose sultry voice and skillful guitar strumming left a very strong impression on me.

Hearing her on stage made me all the more excited to work with her on the upcoming “speak it forward” show at Farmers Alley Theatre. And since then, we’ve begun collaborating with us for the show, and, let’s just say, she’s amazing. If you thought what we’ve done before is powerful, wait until you come to a show with a much needed female voice added to the mix. So a BIG thank you goes out to Todd and Karyn, the producers of Kalamazoo Has Talent, for generating lots of positive energy in the Kalamazoo entertainment industry, for connecting artists to one another, and for taking a risk in this community to do something new. It was and is a success.

Keep your eye out for any new events they are hosting at Wayside West. For more information about Kalamazoo Has Talent, go here: http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=390290355

Way to represent, Kalamazoo! Now on to Vegas, baby.
